When spring arrives to the mountain ski communities it is inevitable that many luxury vacation retreats which usually enjoy strong demand during the winter season are suddenly left empty and alone. While this is bad news for property managers and homeowners, the news is good for anyone wishing to escape the heat in places like Atlanta and Miami. These off season mountain towns can provide the perfect escape for the savvy negotiator. By taking advantage of the vacancy that off seasons provide you can spend the summer in an extraordinary luxury home at a fraction of what it usually costs to enjoy such privilege.
Take for instance the small resort town of Beaver Creek Colorado. Located just 10 miles from world famous Vail Colorado, Beaver Creek provides a summertime Mecca of mountain side beat the heat fun. Summertime activities include all the usual suspects like golfing, rafting, hiking, biking, and horseback riding but many overlook the cultural activities that are often subsidized by local philanthropists. These cultural activities can include culinary events, artist showings, or music and dance events. The best part is that these events are usually very affordable or free thanks to the generous patronage of wealthy local sponsors and corporate contributors.
For anyone who is living in a warm climate the mountains represent a means of escaping the summer heat and the luxury homes that sit empty this time of year represent a great opportunity. The owners of these luxury vacation rentals generally prefer that responsible people occupy these homes during the off season Responsible tenancy helps to guard against the disasters that can occur in an empty home and to alleviate the responsibility of the people who look after the property. For the responsible guests opportunities exist to rent these luxury properties for a fraction of their high season value.
Should you decide you wish to leave the hot sun behind for the cool breezes of mountain summertime the first step is to contact a reputable property manager. By targeting smaller owner operated vacation rental companies you will benefit from the experience of the manager. Larger companies have higher staff turnover and you will likely be speaking with a hourly reservations employee with little to no authority to negotiate your deal. Speaking directly with someone who has the authority to negotiate on the homeowners behalf will put you on the fast track to finding the best deal for your money. Executive property managers often have the authority to negotiate in the best interest of the homeowner often without even speaking to them. Once you have established yourself as a responsible steward of the potential property any good manager will bend over backward to accommodate your budget and schedule. Bear in mind you will not see these reduced rates published and many representatives will not admit to such deep discounts, but rest assured, if you do your homework and keep looking you will find the deal of the century on the Beaver Creek luxury rental that will make your summer retreat an annual event.

Tourism stakeholders foresee an optimistic tourism as well as business and livelihood prospects in the Calamianes Group of Islands in the coming years on the heels of the inaugural of the Francisco Reyes Airport in Busuanga Island, Coron, Palawan by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
”We can accept more bookings”, Al B. Linsangan III, president told the Calamianes Association of Tourism Establishments (CATE) told the Philippines News Agency (PNA)
CATE is composed of more than 50 tourism-related business establishments on the forefront of consolidating efforts to attain a sustainable tourism approach geared for long term benefits through a balanced economic and environmental protection of the Calamianes area.
Linsangan said CATE officers and members came in full force during airport inauguration to show their gratitude to the President following the facility upgrade and improvement of the airport situated strategically in Palawan.
He stressed the newly-refurbished airport will set off a big jump of air traffic and tourist passengers in the Calamianes.
He assured that with the influx of tourists, the CATE members will provide competitive tourism services and rates, similar to tourists service providers in Boracay.
Describing the airport as a “blessing,” Linsangan said both the local government and private sector counterparts will work closely together for a productive and ecologically-balanced management of the local tourism industry.
”In selling our tourism products, we need to have good services and behavior in accepting tourists”, he added.
He pointed out there are four airline local carriers servicing the Francisco Reyes airport namely; Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, SEAIR and Zest Airways.
”We have also now lower fare, tour packages, services and increase of cargoes from 10 to 15 kilos”, Linsangan said, adding that a previous rate of P4,500 has been trimmed trimmed down to P1,000 plus.
As a result, he said airport passenger volume capacity will increase into several fold, from 300 a week to 4,200 passengers a week.
Linsangan said that Coron is famous for its natural reef and rock formations, corals, lakes, lagoons, beaches and marine forests.
The town is known for several Japanese shipwrecks during World War II and it is one of the most visited destinations for wreck diving in the country.
Wreck dive sites are found in a depth as shallow as 10-30 feet and as deep as 120-140 feet. Most are in the range of about 60-80 feet, a depth favorite by sports divers.
Wreck Diving Sites in Coron Bay include the Irako Wreck, Okikawa Maru Wreck, Akitsushima Wreck, Kogyo Maru Wreck, Olympia Maru Wreck, Kyokuzan Maru Wreck, East Tangat Gunboat Wreck (real name of the ship, Teru-Kaze Maru, was recently discovered by a group of Dutch divers, who spent a couple of days digging into bottom sand around the stern), Nanshin Maru Wreck, Lusong Gunboat Wreck and Skeleton Wreck.

Summer is the perfect time of year to travel to Russia. In this issue of the newsletter, we will focus on events in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, two of the most popular tourist destinations in Russia.
The average temperature in Moscow and Saint Petersburg in the summer months is in the comfortable range of 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit, though short spells of much hotter weather, in the 80’s, are possible. In addition, Saint Petersburg’s northern location makes possible its famous “white nights” in June and July, when twilight is the darkest that it gets outside. The atmosphere in Saint Petersburg during the white nights is quite festive. Expect to see many people and hear music in the streets of the city, regardless of the time of night. Summer is also a time of numerous festivals, concerts, and special museum exhibitions.
Moscow-Summer
The traditional Russian folk holiday Troitsa will be celebrated throughout June in all the major parks of Moscow with various craft exhibitions and musical performances.
On June 4th, 5th, and 6th, a variety of concerts and performances will take place throughout Moscow in celebration of the 200th birthday of Alexander Pushkin. Pushkin is considered Russia’s greatest poet.
On June 12th and 13th, look for major public celebrations marking the declaration of independence of the Russian republic.
Don’t miss the Moscow International Beer Festival in July of 2010, which will take place in Luzhniki Park.
Moscow’s Darwin Museum will mark the International Ecology Day on August 5th with a variety of special lectures and exhibits.
The VVTS will host an exposition of folk art in September of 2010. Make sure to also visit the exhibit on the theme of “New Technologies in the Service of Mankind,” showing at the museum at the same time.
The Expo center at the Museum of Architecture will celebrate the International Architect’s Day on September 4th, 2010. Many of the world’s leading architects will be present for the festivities.
Moscow currently boasts over 37,000 hotel rooms available for visiting tourists. Although Russian currency fluctuates, the dollar prices have remained stable over the past couple of years. You will need to have your accommodations reserved and paid for in order to obtain a visa for your trip. Allow 6-8 weeks for the planning of your itinerary and the arrangement of proper documents.
While visiting Moscow this summer, keep in mind that the city has phased out the use of metro tokens in favor of magnetically stripped cards. A card good for 60 rides costs $5, while a monthly pass that will allow you unlimited bus and subway use is $11.
Those of you planning to visit both Saint Petersburg and Moscow this summer will enjoy the newly completed improvements to the train service between the two cities. The trip will be considerably faster as well as more comfortable.
Saint Petersburg-Summer 2010
Thrifty travelers will be glad to learn that the Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked Saint Petersburg as the least expensive destination in Europe out of all the larger cities.
The International Jazz Festival “White Nights Swing” will take place in Saint Petersburg June10th-20th. The International Documentary Film Festival “Message to Man” will take place June 17th-24th. Also in June, look for the International Ballet Competition “Vaganova-Priz” and the City Festival of Street Theaters.
Traveling to the suburbs of Saint Petersburg, you will find several exciting events in the palace-park complex of Peterhof. The Festival of the Summer Season opening, which includes the ceremonial “Solemn Opening of Fountains” takes place May 29th-31st. The International Festival of Fireworks in Peterhof is in August and the Festival of the Fountains is on September 11th.

Here is my top 5 places to manufacture sure you include in any Holiday in Venezuela.
1. Located at the Northeast of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, is Margarita a Caribbean island. It has become one of the most popular tourist places in Venezuela not surprising when there is an average of 320 sun filled days. Where better to be if you want to try windsurfing and other water sports.
Being an island, Margarita is surrounded by a host of beaches. So whatever your choice for beach hotels luxury, there will be a beach for you, secluded or crowded, waves or no waves.
The mountainous island of Margarita offers tropical palm trees and is a natural, beautiful paradise.
2. Merida lies in the fertile valleys between the mountains and supports a lot of agriculture, including coffee plantations, sugar cane, flowers. It also supports tropical plants like palm trees, orchids, fruits and the Golden Rain tree. Merida is one of the cheaper places to visit in Venezuela. Merida has a diverse variety of landscape, such as at once mountain peaks, natural rainforest, luxury hotel reservations, highland moors, waterfalls and lakes.
This diversity produce s the location very attractive to those interested in wildlife, bird lovers, backpackers and climbers alike. The mountain peaks ay be covered in s immediately the climate is like spring for most of the year making for lovely warm days. Night time is a little cooler. Rainfall is usually during the months of May to September.
3. Canaima National Park, is Venezuela’s second large national park. There are mountain forests, thick woodlands that amazingly join sheer cliffs. There are some stunning waterfalls that cascade from the beautiful flat topped mountains of last minute cheap hotels, but most stunning of all is the famous Angel Falls. You have 2 selections in how best to see the Angel Falls. If you wish to navigate the Carrao and Churun river (an upstream trip that can take 3 hours) and a one hour hike in the jungle you will be able to experience the base of the falls. Or for the more adventurous, which ever way you look at it, you can view the Falls in a small aircraft. Either trip is worth the visit as a trip to Venezuela is not complete without seeing the Angel Falls.
4. Fishing for piranhas ( and coming home with all my fingers) on the Venezuela’s Orinoco Delta with howler monkeys watching you from the jungle canopy is not an experience one achieves every day and neither is meeting a Warao Indian family and seeing them in the process of making superb woven baskets.
There is nothing more awe inspiring than walking through the vibrant and alive jungle in a world that seems lost in time.
5. The Guacharo cave is enormous and interconnected by narrow passages. The only light source was the lantern that the guide had who led the way.
The cave is home to the very interesting Guacharo (Oil bird) which is very unique in behaviour. This enormous bird is nocturnal and uses it’s bat like sonar location in poor light. It has long whiskers and a wingspan of over a meter and only leaves the cave at night to search for fruit.
The birds manufacture a strange shrieking noise and it is a good job that you realize that it is them as I could imagine it would be quite terrifying if you did not understand otherwise.
There are far too many tourists in the cave at any time for my liking but this did not take distant from this amazing experience. One thing is for sure if you are visiting the caves produce sure your footwear has good grips as the bird droppings are very slippery.
