The Costa del Sol is the undisputed Jewel of the Spanish Costas. As it is positioned at the southernmost tip of Europe, no other spot can compare in terms of climate, infrastructure and leisure activities.

Perfectly located within the Costas is Calahonda town. If you are searching for a distinctive holiday in a property of high standards look no further than Apartments in Calahonda and in particular, Las Palmeras de Calahonda. The internal living spaces are spacious with archways and light open spaces throughout, and provide one the thrills of holidaying with both comfort and style. The apartments have well designed fully fitted kitchens using brushed stainless steel appliances, intergrated fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine with work surfaces topped with polished granite. Looking At The Most Selected Holiday Cottages In North Devon

Holidaying in the UK this summer could offer a great cost saving. If you are wondering where to go, then North Devon could be a perfect destination. There are plenty of visitor attractions to see and do. Where do you start to look for a cottage?

Well, for a few ideas have a look at the most chosen holiday cottages in North Devon at the moment. Looking at the cottages that other people are looking at and booking the most is a ideal way to start. It’s almost like a recommendation. If other people are renting those cottages above everything else on the market, then they could also be the best holiday cottages for you as well. Other customers know the best villages to stay in, the top locations to stay in. So why not gain from their knowledge and experience and just see what they are go for!

One of the most chosen holiday cottages available in North Devon is known quite simply as ‘Barn’ and is situated in the Kings Nympton area of North Devon. Maybe the name gives the idea that it is a barn conversion! It is quite a large building, able to sleep 12 people, in 4 bedrooms – 2 family bedrooms and 2 twin rooms. Barn is really the largest of 7 conversions on the same farm, which is probably why it is frequently booked. It’s excellent for groups, and if your group needs more space, then there are a few smaller properties to rent out at the same time. It is set in a beautiful location, with scenic views, a cobbled court yard and a pond. The near by village of Kings Nympton is ‘typically English’, with pretty thatched cottages to admire. It’s just a shame that the whole of the country doesn’t really live in such romantic properties!

At the other end of the size spectrum is The Roundhouse, in Swimbridge. This is one of a set of cottages, this one with just space for a romantic escape for a couple. There are plenty of areas of interest within a short distance and the cottages are set within their own gardens and even can use their own outdoor heated pool for summer use.

The third most booked holiday cottage in North Devon is Huntsham Barn, which as a sleeps 5 nestles in size perfectly between the other two cottages. All sizes can fit into the most popular category! Huntsham Barn is sited in Huntsham, North Devon. It is rich in wildlife as it is a conservation area. This is a converted slate stone barn and is very expansive, with its own south facing courtyard and is surrounded by wooded valleys and hills. It’s an excellent area to choose if you want to go somewhere quiet and relaxing to visit.

The Famed History Of Gaucin Within The Costa Del Sol For The Interested Visitor.

The Chequered History Of Gaucin In The Costa Del Sol For The Interested Tourist.

When you are renting a Casares Del Sol Villa you might consider visiting the pretty mountain village of Gaucin. Those staying in Casares villas or apartments highly recommend a scenic tour of both Casares and Gaucin to see the contrast between the two.

Gaucin benefits from sweeping views of the Rif Mountains of Africa and Gibraltar. The village is a literally a painter’s palette displaying amongst its colours vivid red poppies, yellow mimosa, and wild orchids depending on the time of year you visit.

Being not heavily populated with only around 2000 inhabitants you won’t be overrun by the locals at its busiest. Once the village was a major Roman settlement. Its castle, Castillo del Aguila (meaning Eagle’s Castle due to its lofty position) was built in Roman times and was later developed into a fortress by the Arabs. Study carefully and you may well find eagles circling above, while smaller kestrels often nest in the walls of the medieval convent.

The Romans settled in Gaucin as they found it the easiest place to access the Ronda mountain range from the sea to penetrate to the heart of the region. Camino de Ginraltar, the Roman road, is still used, and in parts amazingly the original stones are intact. Gaucín was in fact a resting place for soldiers after the battle between Julius Caesar and the sons of Pompey.

Gaucin is built around a maze of narrow twisting streets and was once a haven for brandy and tobacco smugglers who travelled the area. Up until recently a visit was like stepping back in time as the majority of houses had no running water and one light bulbs.

Gaucin has a history even further back than the Roman period. Step back in time by visiting the Cave and see the prehistoric Cave paintings. Ancient Iberian ceramics have been found in the castle’s water deposit. The Phoenicians established gold mines on the nearby Sierra Bermeja and probably controlled Gaucín during their hegemony in the region.

In 714 AD Tarik the Moor invaded Spain through Gibraltar utilising the Roman roads and Gaucin was the scene of many a long and bloody battle. King Henry IV finally liberated Gaucín in 1457.

The British took Gibraltar in 1704 and the local priest, fearing that Gaucín would be ramsacked, hid church treasures, but the British didn’t arrive. By the end of the century many British Gibraltarians were coming to the Gaucín to spend the summers in the cool mountains.

In 1808 the French invaded Gaucín during the Napoleonic Wars. Seven hundred brave guerrillas tried unsuccessfully to defend the castle. Gaucin subsequently became very poor and many local men became Banoleros, (bandits) ,Bandoleros (bandits) and contrabandistas (sellers of smuggled goods) providing inspiration for Prosper Merimée´s novel that was adapted by Bizet into the opera Carmen. There is taken as evidence to prove that Gaucín, not Ronda was the setting for the Bandolero Act III.

‘Toro de Cuerda’ (bull on a cord) is one of the most popular festivals of the year. On Easter Sunday two bulls, one at 10 a.m. and one at 4 p.m., are loosed to run through the town, chased by the valiant. Much feasting, drinking and hilarity occurs.

There are plenty of suitable Casares Apartments in which to stay to tour the area, or instead choose from those in nearby Benalmadena.

Tips From Our Viewing Visit To Spain To Buy A Holiday Home

Pointers from our viewing trip to Spain to buy a villa

My partner and I had decided to purchase a property in Spain. Talking with some friends who were also thinking of buying a apartment it was suggested we join them at a property exhibition in Birmingham.

To get around quicker, we split from them deciding to meet at midday and recommend suitable stands to visit. They were late back however and a phone call revealed that they had brought an ‘off-plan’ apartment on the Costa Del Sol, west of Malaga, and were just finishing the necessary paperwork.

Frankly we thought them to be deranged to make such a quick decision. However, they knew that area of Spain well. We were more cautious. However upon their recommendation we visited the same stall and hey presto we had agreed a viewing flight to Spain before you could say ‘tapas!’. I must say though that the thought of a cheap weekend in Spain was quite appealing though. A weekend trip cost £95 per person.

A month later we flew into Malaga airport and were very impressed with a warm greeting from the sales person, Virgina. We were even more impressed that she knew our names. Our very own escort was very friendly and we were whisked away from the airport in a nice BMW company car.

After viewing lots of villas and developments at both ends of our financial spectrum, we saw a development we liked at Casares Del Sol about half an hour from Gibraltar. It seemed to have everything we were demanding. It promised luxury apartments with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a high tech kitchen, set amidst tropical gardens with 7 swimming pools. Being British we had the ’stiff upper lip’ choosing to mull over the prospect during the course of the evening.

We did however view some other developments with Virginia so as to be completely sure. There was no pressure placed upon us, the developments almost selling themselves. Virgina gave us sufficient help in seeing the various benefits of exactly where to purchase on a development. Consider for example things as views, noise levels, access as we get older (lift, stairs etc), proximity to pool, rental opportunity

We signed the purchase form for Caseras and handed over 4,000 Euros. The lovely Virginia treated us to a slap up meal at Casares. Casares is a pretty traditional white washed mountain village whereby our development gets its name. At this point she felt more like a new friend than a sales representative. As you can imagine we had many questions regarding them all.

We flew back to the UK excited with dreamy thoughts of spending many holidays in our home in the sun. Virgina kept in touch sometimes informing us to progress on the development and even sent the odd photographs of our plot.

My advice is to carefully select which company you book your viewing trip with. Ask where you will stay for the visit, and of course what is the cost. Finally ask lots of questions, make a list before you go and have each question answered. And once you have decided on your property, sign up with a company that specialises in villa furniture and get them to show you suitable villa furniture packages that are within your budget.

Looking At The Recommended Options Of Holiday Cottages In Appledore

Reviewing the popular selection cottage holidays in Appledore

Since holidays in the UK are going to be a costs cutting measure this summer it is a good time to review holiday cottages in North Devon. Some of the more favoured cottages include the following Appledore holiday cottage:

Appledore, located on the North Devon coast where the Rivers Taw and Torridge meet, is full of history with ancient houses, quaint streets and a deep rooted fishing heritage. The market town of Bideford with its historic Panier Market is close by, as is the surfing beach of Westward Ho!, just a short walk away across Northam Country Park, home to England’s oldest Links Golf Course.

Rainbow’s End cottage is found at the quay end of picturesque and charming Irsha Street and within easy reach of the well frequented public houses, The Royal George and Beaver Inn. A few steep steps lead to a small garden which acts as a sun trap perfect for sun bathing, balmy evenings and BBQs. The cottage is a converted Fisherman’s Cottage with parts dating back over 400 years, gradually changing from fisherman’s cottage to shops, to a lovely holiday cottage.

What could be more tempting for a holiday cottage to be called than “Glimpse-a-View “! A delightful fully refurbished fisherman’s cottage in Appledore. The cottage is situated in the oldest part of the village, a long street with brightly painted cottages on both sides and along the waterfront.

It is the ideal holiday retreat, being within quick rambling distance of a selection of excellent pubs, restaurants, shops and the bustling quayside. It also gives the idea location for rambling, visiting numerous tourist attractions and resting on the sandy beaches. The scenery is simply breathtaking. After a long day exploring, you can take the opportunity to relax and talk about the day’s events in the beautiful, secluded patio garden.

Not far away is Lantern Cottage, a welcoming fully refurbished fisherman’s cottage decorated with style, in the heart of beautiful Appledore. Lantern Cottage is 20 seconds from the waterfront and beach at West Quay, ideal for rockpooling and fishing (sand at low tide). Reduce The Cost Of Your Holiday This Year By Choosing A Holiday Cottage

With the credit crisis taking affect on the country it’s time to start looking at where where we can tighten our belts and the family holiday is certain to come under scrutiny. With a trip abroad potentially costing thousands and the exchange rate falling making costs abroad even more expensive, what can you do to save a small fortune?

Well, the first answer is to not holiday outside of the UK. Booking a holiday cottage in the UK is quick and easy, it means that you don’t have to change currency and there are many more savings to be made. But with the weather not always on our side, to keep the prices down you must plan ahead.

Booking at home has many benefits. No airport transfers to worry about can save the cost of a week’s food, or the cash be put towards a few]/spin] [spin]pleasant meals out on a holiday. There’s no travel insurance to buy, although cancellation insurance etc are still recommended.

One of the most significant savings is not having to exchange cash for a foreign currency. Buying expensive travellers cheques or going to the exchange office for a wad of cash can quickly use up money, and you never really know how much to take. Don’t take enough and you need to change even more on holiday. Take too much and you’re left with a pile of money to change back. Not only are you hit with commission, but also the lower exchange rate. So do you keep a few hundred unchanged for your next time away – and lose out on that cash in the bank?

Then there is the current pathetic exchange rates we are getting resulting in not only the basic holiday prices more pricey, but also food and drinks when we are on holiday. In real terms, prices on my recent trip abroad were 50% more than last time I went abroad – only 2 years ago.

So is the answer just to book a English holiday cottage and have done with it? Choose with care and you can have a pretty cottage, with excellent facilities in a beautiful area of the country.

Then all that you have to do is to ensure that you plan ahead a little and keep the prices down when you are on holiday. With a little thought, the money you have saved booking and not changing currencies will go a long way towards the expenditure of the holiday whilst you are actually in the holiday cottage. Holidaying in a UK holiday cottage can be a lot cheaper than holidaying away from the UK, just make sure that you put a little bit of thought into the process first.

Holidaying within the UK really can save you a lot of money. Book a cottage, be on the look out for cheap entry to local attractions and surprise yourself about holidaying in the UK.

Research Your Luxurious Vacation Destination

A little research about your luxurious vacation destination before you travel could save you a lot of money during your trip.

For a start you should pack your travel items and clothes according to the research you have done to ensure that you won’t need to make any unnecessary purchases when you get to your luxury cruise destination. On a recent trip we didn’t know that the restaurant only allowed men to wear long pants to dinner in the hotel restaurant; we only discovered this when my husband arrived with only shorts in his suitcase! A little planning would have saved us having to buy an expensive pair of pants just so he could eat the meals we had already paid for!

Make sure that items such as sneakers have been worn in before you go on vacation. There is nothing worse than blisters to ruin your vacation and make you miserable.

It is better to be comfortable than to look trendy. If you decide to only pack your designer label clothes you might find that you are spending money on cheaper more comfortable clothes when you reach your resort. Don’t forget sun tan lotion can ruin clothes so leave your best clothes at home and put some older more comfortable items in your case.

Use common sense when packing and take into account the climate of the places you are visiting but still allow for changes in the weather by taking additional clothing so you can stay warm and comfortable at all times. Throw in a light sweater and a pair of long pants or jeans and you’ll be ready for any eventuality.

Many people go on holiday fully intending to make shopping a part of the experience but as with shops anywhere, and even in your own locality, you know that there can be some big variances in prices and you will only be able to get the bargains you are after by talking to people prior to your holiday. Make sure you know the locations of the discount shopping malls before you travel.

If you don’t know anyone who has been to the places that you are going then use the Internet and visit travel websites to find the information. It can save you a bundle of cash that can be spent elsewhere or saved for another trip.

When you get to your Hawaii Luxury Vacation destination, talk to people and in particular other travelers as quite often people will visit the same holiday spots many times and get to know the best places to go. That sort of information is invaluable and is a good way to save money provided you get advice from more than one person confirming what you hear.

Find out more about luxury cruise research.
